Meet The Team 04/12/2019
A minute with...Michael McKenzie
Over the coming weeks we'll be giving you some insight into one of our fantastic colleagues here at Cornelian. This week we chatted to Portfolio Manager, Michael McKenzie
What makes you get out of bed in the morning?
I am not a great morning person so I'm usually rushing around the house to get some breakfast and get ready for the day ahead.
What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?
Anything to do with sport. I play a lot of hockey and play competitively for a team based in Edinburgh but also like to play a bit of golf or get out on my road bike in the summer.
When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
The earliest memories I have were wanting to be a racing driver but these quickly faded and reality set in!
Who would you most like to swap places with for a day?
I’d love to swap places for a day with a professional footballer on a big match day. I’ll be patriotic and choose Andy Robertson – can you imagine the elation of playing in front of the Kop. Priceless.
Where would you like to go on holiday if you had a month off and money was no object?
I’d love to take a camper van around Canada and go and explore the National Parks.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Focus on one thing at a time. You can have it all but not all at once.
If you could invite anyone, which 3 people would you invite to dinner?
As expected I’ve gone for a predominantly sporty line up. First up I’d go with broadcaster and former table tennis player Matthew Syed. His books are brilliant and I think he would have some engaging thoughts on his experiences speaking to big businesses. Secondly I’d choose James Anderson lead manager of Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust to learn all about his discussions with the businesses and technologies that he thinks will shape the future. Lastly I’d invite Peter Crouch to bring some humour to the group (his podcasts have been brilliant).
