Meet The Team  25/09/2019

A minute with...Iain Hay

Over the coming weeks we'll be giving you some insight into one of our fantastic colleagues here at Cornelian. This week we chatted to Iain Hay, Senior Manager, Compliance and Risk.

What makes you get out of bed in the morning?

Obviously apart from the eagerness to get to my desk, we had a new four legged canine rescue addition to the family earlier this year who goes by the name of Misty and she is not one for a lie in!

What is your favourite thing about working at Cornelian?

It’s a great thing in my line of work to have the support of colleagues who genuinely believe that our clients are at the heart of what we do as if we follow that mantra, we will not go wrong. At Cornelian we definitely have that from every single person. I could also add the constant offer of coffee from my room-mates!

What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?

I’m a keen motorcyclist so the rare chance to get out on the bike when it comes is always welcomed. I am still trying to convince myself I have a few years left on the football field so that, along with running to hopefully extend the “career”, is something that I really enjoy and with so much world to see, I also love to travel.

When you were a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

It is so tempting to say “Compliance Manager”. Alas not, I really wanted to be a pilot.

Who would you most like to swap places with for a day?

If there were some way to transfer his immense footballing skill to me, I’d say Leo Messi facing Real Madrid in an El Clásico at the Nou Camp in front of 100,000 fans.

Where would you like to go on holiday if you had a month off and money was no object?

A safari would be wonderful as I’ve yet to experience Africa.

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Challenge yourself. I’m much less anxious about taking on a challenge than I was when I was younger and all the better for it.

If you could invite anyone, which 3 people would you invite to dinner?

I’d go all artsy and have a comedian, musician and actor so Ricky Gervais (actually covers all three buckets!) would be there with Johnny Cash who would provide I’m sure, a few entertaining stories as well as music and for some chat from a sub-50 person, one of my favourite actresses, Reese Witherspoon who would have a good discussion with Johnny about her portrayal of June Carter in Walk the Line!
